First Day Editions is a brand of First Day Studio LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company. In these terms, “we”, “us” and “our” mean First Day Studio LLC. “You” means the person placing an order or using this site.

What these terms cover
These terms govern your use of firstdayeditions.com and every order you place with us. By placing an order you accept them. If you do not accept them, please do not order.
Which page wins if two of our pages disagree
We publish several pages: these terms, the Privacy Policy, the Shipping Policy and the Refund Policy. We try to keep them consistent. If they ever conflict, read them this way:
a. The page that deals specifically with a subject governs that subject. The Refund Policy governs refunds and replacements. The Shipping Policy governs delivery. b. If something we showed you before you paid promised you more than these terms do, the better promise applies to your order. c. Nothing on any of our pages takes away a right that the consumer-protection law of your country, state or province says cannot be signed away. d. A summary never overrides the detailed text it summarises. e. The version of these terms in force on the day you ordered is the version that applies to that order.
If after all of that two provisions still conflict, the one more favourable to you applies.
What we sell
We sell printed documents, made to order. Each edition is a set of printed sheets in a card folder, personalised with information you give us at checkout, such as a surname or a date.
Everything we sell is a physical product that is printed and posted to you. We do not sell digital files, and no part of your order is delivered by email or download.
What our editions are, and what they are not
Our editions are compiled from published reference sources. Every edition states, on its own Sources and Method sheet, where each figure comes from, what is an estimate, and what the document does not claim.
- An edition is not a genealogy of your family and is not proof of descent. A shared surname is not a shared ancestor.
- An edition does not establish a connection between you and any person named in it.
- Where an edition shows a coat of arms, that coat of arms is associated with a surname. It is not a grant of arms and confers no right to bear arms. It is not registered with, issued by or recognised by any heraldic authority, college of arms, chief herald or government body in any country. In several countries arms belong to individuals and not to surnames, and nothing in our editions overrides that.
- An edition is not legal, medical, financial or genealogical advice, and it has no evidentiary value before a court, a registry, a consulate or a bank.
- An edition is not a substitute for professional genealogical research.
We take care with our sources, but historical records contain gaps and errors, and we do not warrant that every statement in an edition is free of them. Where sources conflict or a figure cannot be supported, we leave it out rather than estimate it.
The information you give us
You choose the surname, date or other detail that we print. We print it as you enter it.
- Please check your spelling, your dates and your delivery address before you pay. We cannot correct what we were not told.
- You confirm that you are entitled to give us the information you submit.
- We may decline or cancel an order, and refund it in full, if the personalisation we are asked to print is unlawful, infringes someone’s rights, or is abusive, hateful or obscene. We will tell you if we do.
Changing or cancelling an order after you pay
Because each edition is printed for you, there is a short window in which an order can still be stopped.
- You may change the personalisation or the delivery address, or cancel for a full refund, within 24 hours of placing your order, provided it has not yet gone to print.
- After that, the order is in production and cannot be changed or cancelled.
- Write to support@firstdayeditions.com as soon as you can. Please put your order number in the subject line.
This is separate from your right to cancel if we are late. That right is in the Shipping Policy and in section 7 below, and it is not affected by this window.
Delivery, and what happens if we are late
We give a delivery estimate on the product page and in the Shipping Policy, and we have a reasonable basis for it when we give it.
If we cannot ship by the date we promised, we will email you before that date passes. That email will give you a revised date and the choice to cancel for a full refund. If you do not reply, we will treat it as a cancellation and refund you.
Refunds for a delay are made to your original payment method, within seven working days where you did not pay by card, and within one billing cycle where you did.

Refunds, replacements and damage
Our editions are printed for you and personalised, so we do not take them back because you changed your mind.
That is not the whole story, and the rest is in the Refund Policy: if your edition arrives damaged, defective or not what you ordered, we replace it or refund it, and we do not ask you to post anything back. Please read the Refund Policy — it governs this subject and it is part of these terms.
Prices and payment
Prices are in US dollars and are shown on the product page. The price you see at checkout, including shipping and any tax we are required to collect, is the price you pay.
Payment is processed by Stripe. We do not receive or store your card number.
If a price is shown in error, we will contact you before charging you and you may cancel.
Import duties and charges
Where we ship outside the United States, the destination country may apply duties or import charges. If a carrier asks you for an import charge on an order from us, email support@firstdayeditions.com and we will cover it.
What belongs to whom
The text, layout, illustrations, maps and typographic design of our editions are our original work and belong to First Day Studio LLC. The facts in them do not belong to anyone.
We do not claim ownership of any surname, of traditional heraldic designs, of the history of any family, or of material that is in the public domain.
When you buy an edition you may keep it, print it, frame it, and give or pass it to anyone you like. What you may not do is reproduce it commercially, resell it, or sell copies of it.
Email we send you
If you give us your email address we may send you messages about your order, and — if you asked for them — marketing emails. Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link that works, and you can also write to support@firstdayeditions.com. How we handle your information is in the Privacy Policy.
Our liability
We stand behind what we sell, and the Refund Policy says exactly what we do if something goes wrong.
To the extent the law allows, our total liability for any order is limited to what you paid for that order. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss.
Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including liability for fraud, for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any right that the consumer-protection law of your country, state or province says cannot be signed away.
If something goes wrong between us
Write to us first, at support@firstdayeditions.com. We answer within two business days and most problems end there.
These terms are governed by the law of the State of Wyoming, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, and the courts of Wyoming have jurisdiction — except where the law of the place you live gives you the right to bring a claim where you live, which we do not take away.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The version that applies to your order is the version in force on the day you ordered, and we keep a dated copy of each version. The date at the top shows when this version took effect.
Odds and ends
If a provision of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest stays in force. If we do not enforce something straight away, we have not given it up. Headings are there for convenience and do not change the meaning.
